Export and Import Embedded LNS Configuration
This article explains how to save the supported Embedded LNS configuration from a TEKTELIC KONA gateway and restore it to the same gateway or to a compatible replacement gateway by using the KONA Link web interface.
The saved configuration is a JSON file that contains the supported Embedded LNS configuration, including LoRaWAN network configuration, BACnet mappings, Modbus mappings, and Node-RED flows. Use it to preserve a known working deployment, recover a gateway configuration, or reproduce the same deployment on another compatible gateway.
- Gateway models: KONA Micro, KONA Enterprise/Photon, KONA Macro, and KONA Mega gateways that support both KONA Link and Embedded LNS.
- Software version: BSP 7.2.16 or later.
- KONA Link login credentials.
- A gateway with Embedded LNS installed and available.
- For a restore, a JSON configuration file that was previously saved from a compatible supported gateway.
- For a restore to another gateway, a compatible TEKTELIC gateway product family with the required Embedded LNS components installed.
- A secure location on your computer for the saved configuration file. The file can contain LoRaWAN device credentials, webhook credentials, Node-RED flow data, and other sensitive integration information.
-
Sign in to KONA Link on the gateway.
-
In the navigation menu, open Embedded LNS, then open the Export / Import page.

-
Select Export File.
-
Wait for KONA Link to collect the configuration and download the JSON backup file. Depending on your browser settings, select the location where the file will be saved.

-
Store the downloaded file in a secure location. Use a name that identifies the source gateway and backup date.
-
Confirm that KONA Link reports that the export operation completed successfully before using the file for recovery or gateway replacement.
-
Before beginning, confirm that the target gateway is a compatible KONA gateway and has Embedded LNS installed. The target gateway does not need to be factory reset.
-
Sign in to KONA Link on the target gateway.
-
Open Embedded LNS > Export / Import.
-
In the Import Configuration section, select the JSON configuration file to import.

-
Review the confirmation message. Importing the file modifies the supported configuration on the target gateway. Matching supported objects are updated and missing supported objects are created; do not use this procedure to preserve unrelated existing gateway settings.
-
Select Import, then confirm the operation when prompted.

-
Wait for KONA Link to report the result. If a service restart or reload is required for restored Node-RED flows or another component, allow it to complete before testing the deployment.
-
Verify the restored configuration:
- Confirm that the expected LoRaWAN device profiles, devices, and integration settings are present in Embedded LNS.
- Confirm that the required BACnet objects and Modbus register mappings are available.
- Confirm that the required Node-RED flows are present and operating as expected.
- Test a representative uplink and, where applicable, a downlink.
The file must be valid JSON and use a supported backup schema. Select the original unmodified backup file, and do not attempt to restore a backup created by a newer gateway software release to an older release.
KONA Link should identify the affected area, such as Embedded LNS, BACnet, Modbus, or Node-RED. Record the message, keep the backup file, and contact TEKTELIC Support with the gateway model, software version, and the error details.
Verify that all required services are running and that the target gateway has the correct product-specific components and license configuration. Then verify device connectivity and test the affected BACnet, Modbus, and Node-RED integrations individually.
